Schofield Watch Company

  • The Brand

CEO Gilles Ellis wanted to create a luxury watch outside the norms of regular luxury watches mixing art and meticulous design to every detail. The watches are proudly British where every aspect of the interaction from packaging to servicing years down the line a unique and memorable experience.

  • The Brief

“Design a watch box for the B6 watch which encompasses the values of Schofield and the story behind the watch.” Also including a protective casing for shipping worldwide whilst also being a beautiful object. With a hardpoint of cost per unit at 102 units of £200 and minimal dimensions.

  • The Key Takeaway

Giles wanted the watch box to beautifully tie into the story of the watch with the costal theme and the brands direction within used materials and imagery. The watch box also had to have a unique opening mechanism which would be ‘clever without confusing’ for the wide range of cliental.

  • The Design

Exploring the different opening mechanisms taking inspiration from Japanese puzzle boxes and the da vinic puzzle box. The form was intertwined with the B6’s story with the cylindrical form showing a broken mast where one singular break line went across the horizontal.

  • The Details

Exploring different finishes alongside the addition of the star which represents the harsh conditions sailors were in. With the cross on the top bottom drawing from the history of how sailors would tattoo crosses to the bottom of their heels to ward off shark infested waters.

  • Feasibility

With a hardpoint on price with set units meant that manufacture efficient iteration was vital. Reducing the break line curve for larger tooling to be used alongside reducing overall dimensions for reduction in shipping and material cost.
